A good indication

Today is certainly a good day, a good indication for the freedom of expression in Malaysia. The following is the Suhakam’s finding on the Bloody Sunday incident.

Panel chairman Datuk K.C. Vohrah said the assembly at KLCC was peaceful and orderly and that the police, in dispersing the assembly, had interfered with the right to the freedom of assembly that was enshrined in Article 10 of the Federal Constitution.

Yes, for the first time, it has been acknowledged  publickly by a body summoned by the Government that such public street protest was legal, peaceful and another prove that the police force acted unprofessionaly.

The report’s recommendations added that the rights of any person engaged in lawful advocacy, protest or dissent are not limited by any authority and it should also be ensured that such rights would not be considered as prejudicial to national security.

Finally, some sense kicked in the brains of the judiciary panel. The action taken by the police during Blood Sunday shows that there is no control over what the police can do and can’t do. It may not make a difference now but as stated in today’s edition of malaysiakini, protesters will retaliate. They will fight blood with blood.

Yes, welcome Deepax. Hopefully the crowd will not act as such (retaliating) as it will be bad image for them and for any future public gatherings..
the police force needs the much waited IPMC, but our PM has been behind his dateline by around what..6months? the IPMC should have been set up long time ago.. sad it didn’t materialize till today..

abrak, you are 100% right, its a problem rooted in our society for the past 50years, we can’t expect it to change overnight. any revolution takes a loooong time
